Begging or Child Trafficking

Issues

Begging is one of the most endemic multifaceted social problems with great magnitude, but it is less understood in all its dimensions. Sadly, in relation to begging in Bharat, there are a few important things to know and create awareness in the society. Hearsay and web research says that begging is quite often carried out in organized gangs. For the privilege of begging in a certain territory, each beggar must hand over their takings to the gang’s ring leader, who keeps a significant share of it.

This belief has significant reasons as every day we see a child sleeping in the hands of some or the other beggar. These babies are always asleep. They never sob or scream, always slept, burying his/her face in the knee of a woman… Is she really his/her MUM?

Do any of you, dear readers, have children? Remember how often they slept at the age of 1, 2 or 3 years old?

The next thought that comes to one’s mind is that why do these babies sleep all the time?

Brahmastra team has a similar thought; and intriguing questions that arose in this connection are:

  • Are these children “rented” from families of alcoholics, or simply stolen?
  • If the beggar is a parent of this child than what makes the child sleep all the time?
  • Is it possible for a child to sleep without any movement?
  • Can a mother ignore unconscious state of her child for hours?
  • If these children are stolen or rented than are they under the influence of narcotics?
  • Are we accusing or is this a reality?
  • In any case, is this not a violation of human rights?

Nonetheless, whether it is out of sheer poverty or organized gangs; it is for sure a violation of human rights! Why should these children be in the hands of the beggars?

Therefore, please join the cause and get involved!
